a yard full of leaves and an afternoon of laughter

I can’t believe we’re halfway through autumn already!  It seems like just yesterday we were putting away our bathing suits and pulling out the sweatshirts.  (Truth be told, just last week I did bring the kids down for a bike ride on the Boardwalk and to run around on the sand one last time!)

“Leaf peeper” season has past it’s peak (*sniff sniff*).  All the brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows are slowly falling to the ground.  It’s a little sad, but that just means it’s time for one of my simple pleasures of Fall.  Jumping in leaves!

I watch people out raking leaves and I think their nuts.  Unless you’re raking them to make a leaf pile for your kids, what’s the point?

The other day I took my boys out to play in the leaves.  We grabbed our rakes and made a beautiful pile of yellow, orange, red, and brown leaves.  The 3 year old stood about 20 feet back, took a running start, and “Blue Skidoo-ed” right into the pile!  It was quite a sight!  And he had that look of pure joy and excitement in his face.   I LOVE that look.  There’s NO faking it!  It’s exhilaration.  You can’t help but smile and laugh along.

And the best thing about it is that it didn’t cost a dime.  We were outside enjoying nature.  Laughing and smiling.  And enjoying life the way it should be!
