’tis a gift to be simple

The holidays are here!!!!  This is my absolute FAVORITE time of year!!!

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is looking at lights.  I LOVE to walk around downtown Cape May at night and look at how all the old B&Bs are decorated with white and red lights.  And the Santas climbing on the Virginia.  It’s so simple.  So classic.  So beautiful.  Throw in a little Christmas music and some snowflakes and I’m set!

But every year it seems this time of year gets crazier and crazier.  Ads start WAY too early and stores are putting Christmas stuff out right next to the Halloween markdowns!

Ever since we had our first kid, my husband and I decided that we have to cut back on Christmas.  Not just gifts, but all the activities, too!

This year, I’m making to-do lists.  1. Things we NEED to do.  2. Things we WANT to do.  3. Things we’d LIKE to do.  4. Things we can SKIP.  And it goes on the calendar.

We’re also not going crazy on gifts.  We have a budget – and it’s small.  Purposely.  With a 3 yr old and 1 yr old, there’s not much they want or need.  All the oldest wants is a guitar.  DONE.  And the youngest has no clue what’s going on.  Easy peasy!  They’re getting one big present to share, some smaller gifts, a few gifts  “from the grandparents” and a couple stocking stuffers (including toothbrushes – woohoo!).

After all, Christmas is not about how many presents you have under the tree and how many parties you go to.  It’s about spending time with the ones you love.
