It’s the most wonderful day of the year! Yes, people. Today is OPENING DAY! The day our household has been waiting for since October. A chance to welcome back our old friends and greet some new faces.
To me, it’s not officially spring until they throw out that first ball. Yes, the temperature is still in the 40s here. (In fact, Philly woke up to SNOW this morning!) But that doesn’t matter. Because all thoughts are on the warmer weather to come. Opening day is electrifying. It’s filled with excitement. Hope and optimism for the season to come.
Baseball is a throwback to simpler times. I know a lot of people get down about it because it doesn’t move quick enough for them. But that’s what I love about baseball. Baseball doesn’t exist on anybody else’s schedule. It goes at it’s own pace. It’s measured in innings and outs, not minutes and seconds. Baseball was just made for lazy summer afternoons.
My 3 year old doesn’t understand it (yet) but he knows those red shirts with the fancy white “P’s” mean PHILLIES. And the Phillies are something we can ALL get excited about! He is already asking me when we will get to go to a game this year.
